Our take on the top #10 F1 liveries of all time!
A livery is made by a combination of different sponsors and color combinations. When a team performs well, such a livery can get a special place in history. Here is our top #10 of the best F1 liveries of all time. Feel free to share your favorite liveries with us by commenting below, we are very curious!
#10 The RB14 test livery
In 2018, Red Bull decided to reveal the new RB14 in a special digital camo livery. It was only used as a shakedown livery on the Silverstone track, just before the Formula 1 winter tests in Spain. On the shakedown-day it was raining. It turned out to be an awesome venue for the RB14 test livery since they had to use the full wet tires with the blue markings. In our opinion it gave the livery just that little extra.
#9 The BMW Williams FW23 test livery
Another test livery! Without any doubt one of the most awesome test liveries before the Red Bull era. In 1999 the BMW Williams F1 team decided to run a custom livery during the F1 tests in Jerez, Spain. The livery consisted the BMW colors, blue and white, with linear lines across the body. Since they only used brand sponsors on the front and rear wing, the livery jumped out even more.
#8 The RB11 Dazzle test livery
Yep, another test livery. Also, this test livery needs to be in this top #10. The Red Bull RB11 was presented on 1 February 2015 ahead of the winter tests at Jerez, Spain. For us, it’s the most extraordinary livery that we have seen in Formula 1 so far. Because of this reason we’ve also decided to design a hoodie, sweater and phone case based on this livery! Go check them out.
#7 The Williams F1 livery
One of the most striking liveries in the motorsport history, the Martini livery. Brabham already used the martini livery in 1973. Williams F1 brought the legendary livery back to the Formula 1 in 2014. With their colorful striping and white basis, it’s a favorite for many.

#6 The Benetton BMW B186
The Benetton B186 is one of the most powerful grand prix cars ever build. With more than 1400 bhp in qualification trim, the Benetton had 600 bhp more than its competitors. The livery is quite extraordinaire. The base color of the B186 was a special kind of green. The engine cover was white with colorful painting stripes on top. During the 1986 grand prix of Detroit the car even ran with specially produced colored tires. In our opinion one of the most colorful F1 cars ever!
#5 The Williams FW15C
When you are talking about a car which has the name Williams, you know you are talking about a special car. It is even more special when you consider the designer and driver of the car; Adrian Newey and Alain Prost. When you look at this livery, it is just iconic. This F1 livery represents an era, drivers, battles and technical innovation. It is definitely worth a place in this list!
#4 The Ferrari F2004
We couldn’t ignore Ferrari in this list. The F2004 made Michael Schumacher world champion. Or did Schumacher made the F2004 a championship winning car? However, it has a special place in everyone’s hearts. Even today, the rosso corsa colored car is still be used often in racing games.
The real tifosi would probably like these Ferrari products!
#3 Lotus 97T John Player Special
It is such a simple design but still so cool! A completely black car with only a few simple gold-colored linings, filled in by logos of brands such as Olympus, Elf and Goodyear. All in the same style. We love it! Don’t forget the strength of the helmet here. The helmet livery is just as famous (or maybe even more famous) as the livery itself. We probably don’t have to tell you who the pilot was of the Lotus 97T. Just look at the concentration in his eyes!
#2 McLaren MP4-23
The 2008 Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes F1 car was a beauty! This car made Lewis Hamilton world champion for the first time. In addition to the fact that the car was fast, he also stood out because of his livery! A chrome-like basic color in combination with the red color of Vodafone made it a pleasure to look at. It certainly deserves a high rating in our F1 livery top #10!
#1 McLaren MP4/4
Another McLaren finishes our top #10 F1 liveries. This is without a doubt one of the most remarkable liveries in the history of Formula 1. You won’t find a cleaner looking F1 car than this one, the McLaren MP4/4. The car was driven by Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost in 1988. To this day, it is this car which has the highest win rate ever! 93,8% of all races were won by the McLaren-Honda car. We love its livery for its simplicity. The car is aerodynamic wise simple and so is the livery. A white basis with red parts which represents the colors of the famous motorsport sponsor Marlboro. This livery is definitely our #1!
If we look at the history of Formula 1 there are so many beautiful liveries. It is almost impossible to summarize this in a livery top #10. What is your favorite and why? Did we miss liveries? Just let us know in the comments!
