When it comes to picking your favourite racing series, we think we would make a strong case by saying that the Group C Racing Series is our favourite . The Group C Racing Series is considered the golden age of endurance racing back in the early 90s, and we cannot agree more. This era led to the most iconic and legendary cars that wrote some of the most glorious pages in the history of the Le Mans 24 Hours and the Sports Car world Endurance Championship.
In 1989, the popularity of the Group C Series was risen such that it nearly became as great as Formula One. The FIA even revolutionized the class by attempting to turn it into a Formula Series, since C1 racing cars were found to be breaking the 400 km/h mark. In the event of 1988 the WM-Peugeot recorded the highest 407 km/h (253 mph) at Le Mans’ Mulsanne Straight during qualifying, quite mind blowing!
Another interesting detail is that FIA tried to place limits on fuel consumption rather than on the engine capacity. They namely limited cars to a minimum weight of 800 kg and maximum fuel capacity of 100 litres. Competitors were restricted to five refuelling stops within the 1000 kilometres distance, therefore the C1 cars were effectively allowed to have 600 litres per 1000 kilometres.
When you have to name one of those iconic machines, you would probably start conjuring a Silk Cut-liveried Jaguar XJR-9 or an iconic green-orange Mazda 787B or the tabaco liveried Rothmans Porsche 956. Because of our love for the Group C Racing series, we created some products based on these liveries special for you. Have a look around these products and hopefully some glorious feelings will sparkle up!
